Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to Year 6 with Mrs Fortet, Ms Ford, Mr Holder and Mrs Lyons.

This term our topic focus will be The Second World War.

In English we will be completing recount writing and diary entries, based on experiences from an educational visit.

Our PE days will be Tuesday and Friday, you will need to get changed into your PE kit in school. You are expected to have your reading books in school everyday and the reading check will take place on a Tuesday, so please ensure your reading records are in school on this day.

Weekly Homework tasks:

These are the things we expect you to do weekly…

Passwords can be found in Reading Journals.

We will be running a raffle where you will receive a ticket every time you read. Each term you will be in with the chance to win an exciting new book! Remember- the more you read the better the chance of winning!

Term 3 Theme Map

Maths

We used the square mats in the hall to learn about perimeter, area and volume.

Athlete Visit

An Olympic judo athlete visited the school and we took part in some circuit exercises to raise money for the school, as well as for Olympic charities. It was good fun, but hard work!

History

As part of our Industrial Revolution topic, we tried to recreate what it would have been like for the children crawling through mining tunnels as trappers or drawers.  We made tunnels using the classroom tables and covered them with fabric to make it dark.  It wasn't very comfortable and the children complained of sore knees!

History

As part of our history topic, we visited the Steam Museum in Swindon.  We took part in an air raid and evacuation discovery session. We also had time to look around the museum.
