Coalway Junior School

Welcome to Coalway Junior School

Welcome to Coalway Junior School where our children are nurtured to become well rounded, happy, positive young people ready to move on in their educational journey.

Coalway Junior School is a mile away from the busy market town of Coleford set in the beautiful Forest of Dean and our grounds are extensive and include a large playing field and nature area.

Our children are very proud of our school and their achievements. They take pride in helping each other and this starts with our buddy system between the new Year 3 and Year 6 children which allows the children to build friendships across all age groups. They consistently demonstrate outstanding behaviour when taking part in the many activities inside and outside of school. Without exception, members of the public comment on our children’s attitudes to learning and superb behaviour during every school visit that is undertaken. At sporting events their team spirit and sportsmanship is second to none! Our caring, nurturing ethos ensures that relationships between staff and pupils is built on mutual respect and trust.

Our school aspires to a tradition of excellence with our values being the driver to inspire and motivate our children through a rich and engaging thematic curriculum. We assess where our children are on entry into Year 3 and we tailor their English and Math’s curriculum to ensure a development of skills from the Infant School. The development of key skills in core subjects underpins our whole curriculum and is one way that we track your child’s progress.

We encourage outdoor learning and visits from visitors particularly in the Forest of Dean but of course, in today’s world, we have an eye on the wider picture and our twinning and Erasmus projects have an understanding and experience of the wider world. Our staff always go the extra mile so that the children are offered a wide range of extra-curricular activities, school visits and residentials including to France and Sardinia.

Our School Councillors are active in promoting pupil voice in our school. They are involved in several initiatives to develop the school and have supported many charities some close to our hearts. Our latest fundraising effort has enabled us to sponsor a child in Tanzania to attend school and to raise funds for resources.

Please take a look around our school website and enjoy the fantastic work that our children are producing.
