Intent of the History Curriculum

At Coalway Junior School, our aims are to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum for History; providing a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum; ensuring the progressive development of historical concepts, knowledge and skills; and for the children to develop a love for history. Furthermore, we aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about history that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We want children to enjoy learning about history by gaining knowledge and skills, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork and educational visits/ visitors.

History is taught as part of a half-termly topic, focusing on knowledge and skills stated in the National Curriculum. The skills and knowledge taught is progressive from year group to year group.
