Operation Encompass

Safeguarding Through Partnership

At Coalway School, we actively participate in the Operation Encompass program, working closely with police to support children who have been affected by domestic abuse. When officers attend a domestic abuse incident, they share information with the school’s Key Adult—our Designated Safeguarding Lead or Officer—before the start of the next school day. This ensures we are aware of the situation and can provide timely and appropriate support based on the child’s individual needs and wishes.

Further Information

We recognise that experiencing domestic abuse can have a profound and lasting negative impact on children, affecting their social, psychological, physical, emotional, and behavioral well-being. Without early intervention, these effects can persist throughout a child’s life, including their academic success. Domestic abuse is classified as an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), highlighting the importance of addressing its impact as early as possible.

Through Operation Encompass, we aim to better understand the experiences and challenges faced by children living with domestic abuse. This partnership enables us to provide the support, care, and nurturing environment each child needs to help them feel safe, valued, and understood. By addressing these needs, we strive to make each child’s day brighter and build a foundation for a better tomorrow.
